St. Anton is a long village strung out along the valley, and where you stay changes your day. The centre is busy and close to the main lifts. Nasserein has its own gondola and the ski school’s children’s area. St. Jakob is quieter but relies on the ski bus, and St. Christoph is up in the ski area itself.

Best areas to stay in St. Anton

The centre

The pedestrian zone on Dorfstrasse, the railway station and the Galzigbahn are all here. It’s the most convenient base and the liveliest, especially in the early evening when the slopes empty into town. Good for groups, for anyone arriving by train, and for anyone who wants to walk everywhere. The flip side is noise: rooms on or near Dorfstrasse can be loud in the evenings.

Nasserein

St. Anton’s oldest district, east of the centre, with the Nassereinbahn gondola into the ski area and the ski school’s Kinderland by the Nassereinerlift. It’s a sensible choice for families who want lift access without staying in the thick of the après.

St. Jakob

A district further east, with direct access to the cross-country trails and winter walking paths. A ski bus links it to the main lifts. It’s quieter and often better value, but you’ll be on the bus most mornings.

St. Christoph

A small hamlet high up on the Arlberg Pass road, in the ski area itself. It’s quiet in the evenings, and skiing starts close to the door, but there’s little beyond the hotels. It suits keen skiers who don’t want the St. Anton nightlife.

Best ski-in/ski-out hotels in St. Anton

St. Anton isn’t a purpose-built resort, so true ski-in/ski-out is rare in the village. These are the closest to the lifts among the hotels we’ve checked:

  • Anthony’s Peaks & Pillows, centre: an aparthotel about a minute’s walk from the cable car.
  • Sporthotel St. Anton, centre: in the pedestrian zone, a few steps from the lifts, with its own garage and a free ski depot.
  • Hotel Nassereinerhof, Nasserein: about 150 m from the Nassereinbahn.
  • Hotel Schwarzer Adler, centre: about a 6-minute walk to the Galzigbahn, with a free ski depot there.

If being on the slopes matters most, look at St. Christoph, which sits in the ski area.

Best family hotels in St. Anton

Luxury hotels in St. Anton

At the top end of the village, two four-star superior hotels stand out:

  • Hotel Schwarzer Adler, run by the same family for five generations, with indoor and outdoor pools and a free shuttle from the station. Its 2026/27 winter season runs from 4 December 2026 to 11 April 2027.
  • Hotel Alte Post, in the village centre, with a large spa and an indoor pool fed by mountain spring water.

Both are in the centre, so you’re paying for convenience as much as comfort.

Good-value places to stay in St. Anton

St. Anton is one of Austria’s best-known international resorts, and it’s priced accordingly in school holidays. A few ways to bring the cost down:

  • Stay in St. Jakob. It’s quieter and often better value, with a ski bus to the main lifts.
  • Self-cater. Aparthotels such as Anthony’s Peaks & Pillows work out cheaper for groups and families.
  • Avoid the school holidays if you can. Christmas, New Year and February half-term are the busiest and most expensive weeks.

Tips for booking a last-minute stay in St. Anton

  • Check the hotel’s dates. The lifts run from 2 December 2026 to 18 April 2027, but hotels set their own seasons. Schwarzer Adler, for example, closes on 11 April.
  • Think about noise. Rooms on or near Dorfstrasse are handy but can be loud in the evenings. Nasserein and St. Jakob are calmer.
  • Check the lift you’ll actually use. A short walk to the Galzigbahn suits strong skiers heading up the mountain. Families with young children may prefer to be close to the Nasserein children’s area.
  • Ask about parking. Many hotels have their own spaces or garages, which matters more than usual when the village is busy.
  • Come by train. The station is in the centre, and some hotels, such as Schwarzer Adler, run a free shuttle from it.
