Baqueira-Beret works well for families, particularly with young children and beginners. The resort runs its own childcare and snow parks, Beret has one of the best learning areas in the Pyrenees, and the Val d’Aran villages make calm bases. The things to plan around are the variable Pyrenean snow and the busy Spanish holiday weeks.
Is Baqueira-Beret good for families?
Yes. Three things make it work:
- Baby Baqueira, the resort’s own childcare and snow-play service, from 6 months to 7 years.
- Beret, a sector the resort describes as ideal for families and beginners, with a wide, safe learning area right next to the car park and broad green and blue runs.
- A beginner pass at a reduced price, so you’re not paying for the whole ski area while children learn.
Ski schools and kids’ lessons in Baqueira-Beret
The resort says the minimum age for private (hourly) lessons is 3, and for group courses it’s 4. Group courses are booked as part of a “stay plus group course” package through the resort. More than 20 ski and snowboard schools work in the resort, so compare what each offers for children and check their own minimum ages.
Book early for Christmas, Easter and Spanish long weekends, when lessons for younger children fill up first.
Childcare and nurseries in Baqueira-Beret
Baby Baqueira has three parks:
- Baby Baqueira 1500, for children from 6 months to 3 years. Full day from 08:30 to 16:45.
- Baby Baqueira 1800 and Baby Beret, for children from 3 to 7 years. Full day from 09:00 to 16:30.
Morning sessions run until 14:00, and afternoon sessions from 13:00 until closing. There’s a surcharge for late pick-up. Activities include crafts, films, free play, snow games, sledging and a first go on skis with magic carpets and a snow carousel. You can bring your child’s food or choose one of the park’s menus.
Capacity is very limited, so book online well ahead: a place is only confirmed once you’ve paid in full. Label everything, pack spare clothes, and put high-factor sun cream on before drop-off.
Among the hotels, Val de Neu runs a miniclub with activities for guests.
Best beginner areas for children in Baqueira-Beret
- Beret (1,850 m): the pick for families. A wide beginner area beside the car park, then the gentle greens and blues around Clot der Os.
- Baqueira 1800: a fenced beginner area above Baqueira 1500, reached by the gondola or the Bosque chairlift. Nevasport reports it’s being reorganised for 2026/27, with a new six-seat chairlift to separate learners from skiers heading higher.
- Bonaigua: a smaller beginner area of its own at the top of the pass.
- A funpark for children and a snowpark for older ones who want to try freestyle.

Baqueira-Beret lift passes for families
- The beginner pass covers only the beginner lifts at Beret and Bonaigua: the Pla de Beret drag, the Beret conveyor and the first stop of the Cap del Port chairlift. Buy it at the Beret or Bonaigua ticket offices.
- Baby passes for children under 6 are sold only in person at the resort’s information points. Bring ID.
- A walking pass lets non-skiing grandparents or parents ride the Baqueira gondola, Bosque and Esquiros (Tanau) chairlifts up and back to meet the family for lunch.
- Online pass purchases can’t be refunded or changed, so be sure of your dates.
Things to do with kids in Baqueira-Beret off the slopes
The Val d’Aran tourist office lists dog sledding, horse-drawn sledges, snowmobiles and guided snowshoeing, including half-day outings. On 24 December, Santa arrives at Baqueira Beret by dog sled.
For bad-weather days, the Palai de Gèu in Vielha is the valley’s sports centre, known for its ice rink and pools: check opening times before you go. There are also thermal baths at Arties, Tredòs and Les. The Aran Park wildlife park near Bossòst, with bears, lynxes and wolves, has opened from spring to autumn in recent years, so check before planning a winter visit.
Best family hotels in Baqueira-Beret
Baqueira 1500 is the easiest base with small children: Baby Baqueira 1500, the gondola and the ski schools are on the doorstep. Hotel Montarto has family rooms and a heated pool at the foot of the lifts, Val de Neu has a miniclub and a children’s indoor pool, and Tuc Blanc is about 80 m from the gondola. For a calmer village base, Hotel Petit Lacreu in Salardú has rooms suited to families and serves children’s dinners. See where to stay in Baqueira-Beret for the full list.
Tips for skiing in Baqueira-Beret with kids
- Start at Beret. Park next to the beginner area, buy the beginner pass and keep things simple for the first days.
- Check the snow before you book. Pyrenean snow varies from year to year, and the base is at 1,500 m. The resort publishes a snow report and three-day forecast every morning.
- Mind the sun. At this latitude it’s strong: high-factor sun cream and goggles for everyone.
- Pick your weeks. The early-December long weekend, Christmas and Easter (28 March in 2027) fill up fast. The season usually ends after Easter, so spring trips are shorter than in the Alps.
