In Saalbach Hinterglemm, the village you choose shapes your week more than the hotel does. All four Skicircus villages are linked on skis, but they feel very different, and getting between them by road takes a while. Here’s how they compare, and the hotels worth a look in each.
Best areas to stay in Saalbach Hinterglemm
Saalbach
The main village, with lifts such as the Kohlmaisbahn leaving from the centre, plus most of the shops, ski schools and the busiest après-ski. It’s the obvious base for groups who want the nightlife on the doorstep. The downside: the centre is loud in the afternoon and evening in peak weeks.

Hinterglemm
Further up the valley, with lifts on both sides, including the Zwölferkogel and the Reiterkogel, where a new gondola is planned for 2026/27. It’s still lively, but it has the valley’s biggest cluster of dedicated family hotels, several with their own practice slopes and kids’ clubs. The floodlit slope at the U-Bahn and the Reiterkogel toboggan run are here too.
Leogang
On the other side of the ridge, quieter and more rural, with several upmarket spa hotels on the slopes of the Asitz. It’s a good choice if you want calmer evenings and still want to ski the whole Skicircus.

Fieberbrunn
In Tyrol, at the western end of the Skicircus. It’s the base for freeriders, since the Wildseeloder face is a regular Freeride World Tour venue, and it’s handy if you’re driving in from the Kufstein direction. Note that the Guest Mobility Ticket only covers stays in Salzburg province, so it doesn’t apply here.

Luxury hotels in Saalbach Hinterglemm
The five-star Krallerhof in Leogang is the top-end choice, with ski-in/ski-out access and several spa areas. Naturresort Puradies, also in Leogang, adds private chalets with hotel service and an adults-only sauna house. In Saalbach itself, the four-star Hotel Saalbacher Hof is right on the village square, with an indoor rock pool, sauna and a 3,000 m² rooftop garden.
For a different style, mama thresl in Leogang is a relaxed, design-led hotel with a bar, lounge and DJ nights. It suits couples and groups better than young families.
Good-value places to stay in Saalbach Hinterglemm
Most of the best-known hotels are four-star or above. For groups and families on a budget, apartments and guesthouses are usually the cheaper route, especially if you don’t need to be right on the piste. Two things help keep costs down:
- The free ski bus runs along the valley between Lengau, Hinterglemm, Saalbach, Jausern and Viehhofen every 20 to 30 minutes, so a place a short walk from a stop can work fine.
- The Guest Mobility Ticket, issued at check-in for stays in Salzburg province, covers public transport, including the journey in if your host registers you in advance.
Tips for booking a last-minute stay in Saalbach Hinterglemm
- Check the snow before the price. The villages are around 1,000 m, so in a mild spell a ski-in/ski-out home run can be thin or closed. Ask how far the nearest lift is on foot.
- Avoid the World Cup weekend if you want a quiet, cheaper stay: the men’s downhill and super-G are on 27 and 28 February 2027.
- Look at Easter. From 20 March 2027, children born in 2011 or later ski free when a parent buys a pass of four days or more, and the season runs until 4 April 2027.
- Saturday is a common changeover day, and the L111 up the Glemm valley gets busy. Arriving midweek, or early on a Saturday, makes life easier.
- Check opening dates. Not every hotel opens on the first lift day, 27 November 2026, so confirm before booking an early-season trip.
