Ski area: Serfaus-Fiss-LadisGood for:FamiliesBeginners

If you’re skiing with young children in Austria, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is the resort to measure others against. Everything is built around families: dedicated children’s areas covering 125,000 m², two ski schools that specialise in children with more than 700 instructors between them, children’s restaurants, childcare that starts with babies, and a free underground that takes you to the lifts.

Is Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis good for families?

Yes, and especially with young children and beginners. What makes it work:

  • Childcare from 3 months at Berta’s Kindergarten in Fiss, and many family hotels with their own clubs.
  • Three huge children’s areas: Berta’s Kinderland in Fiss, Murmlis Kinderalm in Serfaus and the free Murmlipark in the village centre.
  • Free lift passes for children born in 2021 or later.
  • A car-free village. In Serfaus, the underground replaces the drive to the lifts, and children love it.
  • Sunny, mostly intermediate slopes, with 47 km of blue runs and around 30 conveyor belts and rope tows.

The main downsides: it’s busy and not cheap in school holidays, and the best courses and hotels book up early.

Ski schools and kids’ lessons in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

  • Children’s ski courses start from age 3. Check the exact minimum age for each course with the school.
  • In Fiss and Ladis, children learn at Berta’s Kinderland with Ski school Fiss-Ladis.
  • In Serfaus, the ski school centre is at the cable car valley station, with a second base, Skischool-Komperdell, at the 2,000 m top station.
  • Lunch: children on courses eat with their group at the children’s restaurants Murmlirest, Starrest and Berta’s Kinderplanet. Ask the school how lunchtime supervision works.
  • Book before you travel. The resort says places fill up quickly, especially in school holidays. Lift passes aren’t included in the course price.

Childcare and nurseries in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

  • Berta’s Kindergarten (Fiss) takes babies from 3 months.
  • The Murmli crèche (Serfaus) takes children from age 1, by the half day or full day.
  • Many family hotels run their own clubs. The Löwe in Serfaus cares for babies from their first week up to age 12, 12 hours a day, and the five-star Bär from one week to 17. Familienhotel Furgler offers childcare from 6 months, and Hotel DreiSonnen runs a free evening kids’ club from age 3.

Best beginner areas for children in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

  • Berta’s Kinderland (Fiss): about 80,000 m² reserved for young children, with a learning slope called the Children’s Mountain, themed slopes and the “Fairy Tale Express” double conveyor belt.
  • Murmlis Kinderalm (Serfaus): a 45,000 m² adventure park with slides, carousels, an obstacle course and an igloo, where children learn through play with the Murmli stories and dance.
  • Murmlipark (Serfaus village centre): a gently sloping 10,000 m² meadow with two conveyor belts and play figures. It’s free for everyone, so it’s a good place for a first go before committing to lessons.

New for 2026/27, there’s Berta’s Race Club, new photo spots at the Alpkopf, Plansegg and Lazid, and a funslope line in the expanded Sun Park. The new Planseggbahn chairlift has a child-safety bar. Once children are confident, there are wide, easy runs right across the area, and in Serfaus you can start skiing straight from the valley station or the Komperdell top station.

Tips for skiing in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis with kids

  • Book everything early. Ski school, childcare and family hotels are the resort’s whole selling point, and the best options go first in school holidays.
  • Choose your village by children’s area. Base yourself in Fiss for Berta’s Kinderland, or in Serfaus for Murmlis Kinderalm and the Murmlipark.
  • Car-free means planning. In Serfaus, you drive to your accommodation on arrival day and then leave the car. Pack with that in mind.
  • The season ends on 4 April 2027. Easter 2027 falls inside the season, but don’t plan a mid-April trip here.
  • Save money in the quieter weeks. The snow start from 4 to 18 December and the low-season weeks from 13 to 19 March and from 30 March are usually better value.
