Méribel is spread along the Allues valley, so where you stay shapes the whole trip. Méribel centre has the most going on, Mottaret puts you higher and closer to the slopes towards Val Thorens, and the smaller districts are calmer.
Best areas to stay in Méribel
Méribel centre
The heart of the resort, at about 1,450 m, with the shops, restaurants, bars, the Olympic Park and the main ski-school meeting points. Several hotels sit right at the foot of the slopes, around La Chaudanne. Best for families and groups who want everything within walking distance.
Le Belvédère and the Rond-Point des Pistes
Above the centre, around the Rond-Point des Pistes. Good for ski-in/ski-out stays, including the five-star Le Coucou. Expect to rely on the Méribus shuttle or the lifts to get down into town in the evening.
The Altiport
Quiet and wooded, next to gentle beginner slopes, the Piste des Animaux and a secure sledging area for small children. Good for families with young children, but further from the shops and bars.
Méribel-Mottaret
Higher, at about 1,750 m, more ski-focused and quieter in the evenings, with hotels right by the pistes. It’s closer to the links towards Les Menuires and Val Thorens and to the Tuéda nature reserve. A free shuttle runs to Méribel centre, about 10 minutes away.

Méribel Village and Les Allues
Méribel Village is the smallest and quietest base. Les Allues, the original village, is lower down the valley and calmer still, but at that height the snow on the way home is the least reliable late in the season.

Tips for booking a last-minute stay in Méribel
- Check the hotel’s dates. The lifts run from 5 December 2026 to 18 April 2027, but several hotels open later or close earlier. Le Grand Coeur closes on 29 March and Le Kaïla on 4 April.
- Book early or late in the season. Hôtel Le Mottaret opens on 27 November, before the lifts, and La Chaudanne and L’Eterlou stay open until 18 April.
- Stay higher in spring. Mottaret’s extra height helps if you’re booking for late March or April.
- Avoid Saturday arrivals if you can. It’s changeover day, and the D90 from Moûtiers gets very busy.
- Book parking. Reserve a space through Méribel Parking before you arrive. Several covered car parks, including Dou du Pont, have electric car chargers.
- Coming by train? Stay in Méribel centre or Mottaret, where the free Méribus shuttles and Altibus coaches make life easy without a car.
