Tignes is mostly an apartment resort. The official booking site lists 14 hotels, and almost all of them are in Tignes le Lac and Val Claret. Choosing the right village matters as much as the hotel, because the five villages are spread along the valley at different heights, and each has a different feel.
Best areas to stay in Tignes
Tignes le Lac
The main hub at 2,100 m, by the lake, with the tourist office, the most shops and restaurants, and the Le Lagon aqua centre. Most of the hotels are here, in the Le Rosset, Les Almes and Le Bec Rouge districts. The Tovière gondola and Palafour chairlift leave from the village, and the free Rosset and Almes beginner chairlifts are close by. The easiest choice for first-timers and families.
Val Claret
At the head of the valley, by the Perce-Neige funicular to the Grande Motte glacier. It’s the liveliest village after dark, with the most bars and clubs, so it suits groups and keen skiers who want the highest skiing on their doorstep. Light sleepers should ask for a quiet room.

Le Lavachet
A small, quieter district between Le Lac and Val Claret, with lifts on the doorstep and free shuttles to both. It has restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance, but it’s mainly apartments.
Tignes 1800
A newer village, opened in December 2013, of stone and wood chalets around a replica of the old Tignes church. The Les Boisses gondola takes you up to the slopes, you can ski back to the village, and there’s a beginner area with free carpets. Peaceful in the evenings, and designed with families in mind.

Les Brévières
The traditional village, at 1,550 m at the foot of the dam, with old chalets, larch trees and cosy restaurants. A gondola links it to the main ski area. It’s quieter and usually cheaper than the upper villages, and its tree-lined runs are the place to be in flat light. The trade-off is lower snow on the home run late in the season, and a lift ride to the high skiing.

Best family hotels in Tignes
| Hotel | Area | Why families like it |
|---|---|---|
| Hôtel Club mmv Les Brévières | Les Brévières | Four-star, Famille Plus label, baby club from 18 months to 3 years, children aged 4 to 13 taken to ESF group lessons |
| Club Med Tignes | Val Claret | All-inclusive and ski-in/ski-out, Petit Club Med from age 2, Mini Club for older children |
| Hôtel Le Levanna | Tignes le Lac | On the pistes, with a ski school meeting point a few steps away |
| Hôtel VoulezVous | Tignes le Lac | Games area, pool and spa, and a concierge to book ski lessons |
| Hôtel Les Campanules | Tignes le Lac | Four-star with a heated outdoor pool, 200 m from the pistes |
A few notes. mmv Les Brévières isn’t on the slopes: you walk through the village to the gondola. Club Med charges extra for the Petit Club, and it doesn’t have a Baby Club for under-2s. For ski schools, beginner areas and childcare, see Tignes with kids.
Luxury hotels in Tignes
The tourist office lists three five-star hotels:
- Hôtel VoulezVous, Tignes le Lac: a 600 m² spa with a pool, hot tub, sauna and hammam, and ski valets who fit your kit and bring your passes.
- Les Suites – Maison Bouvier, Val Claret: a 24-room boutique hotel with an indoor pool and spa. Its restaurant, Ursus, holds one Michelin star.
- Les Suites du Montana: the third five-star on the tourist office list.
Good-value places to stay in Tignes
The cheaper hotels on the official booking site include the two-star La Vanoise and Le Terril Blanc, and the three-star Le Paquis, L’Aiguille Percée and Le Refuge. mmv Les Brévières is also good value for families once you count the kids’ clubs and lesson escort. For groups and bigger families, an apartment usually works out cheaper than a hotel, and Les Brévières and Tignes 1800 tend to cost less than Le Lac and Val Claret.
Tips for booking a last-minute stay in Tignes
- Check your hotel’s dates. The lifts open on 21 November 2026 and close on 2 May 2027, but hotels don’t all match. Les Campanules runs from 27 November to 11 April, and Le Levanna from 4 December to 25 April.
- Book parking with your room. Car parks are paid in winter and can be reserved online. Free shuttles link the villages.
- Avoid Saturday arrivals if you can. The road up from Bourg-Saint-Maurice is busiest on holiday changeover days.
- Match the village to the forecast. In a cold, snowy spell, the upper villages are best. In a storm, a base near the trees at Tignes 1800 or Les Brévières makes bad days more skiable.
