Sestriere is a compact, purpose-built resort on a high pass, and almost everything is close to the snow. The tourist board counts more than 1,730 rooms and 4,771 beds, mostly in hotels and residences within a short walk of the lifts. The choice is really between the centre, the quieter hamlet of Borgata below it, and the other villages of the Vialattea.
Best areas to stay in Sestriere
Sestriere centre
The village itself, at 2,035 m, around Piazza Fraiteve, Via Pinerolo and Via Sauze. Most of the hotels, the ski schools, the tourist office and après spots such as GFC La Gargote are here, and the slopes come right down to the village. It’s the easiest base for almost everyone.

Borgata Sestriere
A separate hamlet of Sestriere, along Via del Colle, with its own ski school (Scuola Sci Sestriere Borgata) and a handful of hotels and residences, such as Hotel Banchetta, Hotel Hermitage, Hotel Sciatori and Residence Nube d’Argento. It’s quieter in the evening than the centre.
Champlas du Col
A small hamlet of Sestriere on Via Nazionale, with the Albergo del Centro. Fine with a car, but check how you’ll get to the lifts.

Staying in the other Vialattea villages
Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere and Pragelato are all linked to Sestriere, as is Montgenèvre in France. Sauze d’Oulx has the Vialattea’s snowpark, Sansicario and Sauze have Baby Fun Parks, and Pragelato is home to Club Med. The trade-off is altitude: Cesana is at about 1,400 m, so lower villages are more exposed in a warm spell than Sestriere.
Best ski-in/ski-out hotels in Sestriere
- Hotel Principi di Piemonte, Via Sauze di Cesana: four-star, right on the slopes at 2,035 m and ski-in/ski-out, with an indoor pool and a spa. A hotel shuttle also runs to the Garnel chairlift while the lifts are open.
- Hotel Du Col, Via Pinerolo: you cross the hotel car park and you’re on the piste. Family rooms, a ski room and private parking, but no spa.
- Shackleton Chalet, Via Cesana: apartments and rooms a few metres from the lifts, with hotel services and massages.

Upmarket hotels in Sestriere
Sestriere doesn’t have a five-star hotel on the tourist board’s list, but a few hotels stand out:
- Hotel Principi di Piemonte: ski-in/ski-out, with an indoor pool and a spa that guests can use at a reduced rate.
- Grand Hotel Sestriere, Via Assietta: in the heart of the village near the lifts, with a spa (steam room, Finnish sauna and hot tub) and suites suited to families.
- Club Med Pragelato Vialattea: the all-inclusive option, at about 1,600 m in Pragelato and linked to the Vialattea slopes.
Good-value places to stay in Sestriere
- Hotel Gran Roc, a three-star renovated in 2019, overlooks the slopes and has rooms for four.
- Residences and apartments, such as the Palace residences, Chalet Edelweiss and Nube d’Argento in Borgata, can work out cheaper for groups and families who’d rather self-cater.
- The tourist board’s hotel and residence packages include a ski pass, so compare them with booking separately.
Tips for booking a last-minute stay in Sestriere
- Check the dates. The Vialattea runs from 5 December 2026 to 11 April 2027, and peak lift-pass prices apply from 24 December to 6 January.
- Think about the train. Sestriere is only 30 minutes by bus from Oulx station, so you don’t need a car if you stay in the centre.
- Ask about shuttles, if your hotel isn’t on the slopes. Several, such as Principi di Piemonte and Gran Roc, run their own to the Garnel chairlift.
- Look at the forecast as well as the price. In a warm spell, a room in Sestriere at 2,035 m is worth more than a cheaper one in a low village such as Cesana.
