Saas-Fee works well for families. The village is car-free and compact, the snow is reliable from autumn, and the whole valley has plenty for children. The main things to plan around are the altitude, the cold and the walk from the car park.
Is Saas-Fee good for families?
Yes, it’s one of the easier Swiss resorts with young children:
- No cars in the village, so children can walk around safely.
- Free lift passes for under-6s, and for children up to 8.99 with the family offer.
- Snow-sure skiing from 31 October 2026 to 18 April 2027.
- A ski nursery for toddlers, beginner courses from age 3, and a dedicated children’s area at Saas-Almagell.
The downsides are the cold in midwinter and the fact that the three ski areas aren’t linked by lift. For the full picture, see our Saas-Fee ski resort guide.
Ski schools and kids’ lessons in Saas-Fee
The valley has several snow-sports schools: the Swiss Ski School Saas-Fee, ESKIMOS, Bespoke Snowsports, Balance, and schools in Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell. The Swiss Ski School Saas-Fee lists beginner courses for ages 3 to 4, with children taught through the Swiss Snow League levels.
Each school sets its own ages, groups and meeting points, so check minimum ages with the school before you book. Book early for Christmas, New Year and February.

Best beginner areas for children in Saas-Fee
Kian’s Adventure Land at Furggstalden, above Saas-Almagell, is the valley’s dedicated children’s area. It has a kids’ slalom on a blue piste, a fun park with tunnels and a free snowtubing track. There’s also an igloo showing children’s films and a carousel with a playground, and children from 6 can drive the kids’ Skidoos. It’s free with a ski pass, but it only opens with the Saas-Almagell lifts on 19 December 2026.
In Saas-Fee itself, the village lifts are the place for first turns, and the Morenia fun park is there for children ready for jumps. The Funslope at Kreuzboden in Saas-Grund suits all levels.

Saas-Fee lift passes for families
- Children under 6 ski free.
- Children up to 8.99 years ski free when a parent buys a pass of at least 6 days and holds a valid SaastalCard. The parent shows ID and the SaastalCard at the ticket office, and the child’s free pass is issued after an ID check.
- The family offer doesn’t apply to season or annual passes, and discounts don’t add up.
- Child and youth fares go by date of birth, not year of birth.

- Aqua Allalin: a 25 m indoor pool, a children’s pool and a water slide, open daily.
- VirtuAllalin: a virtual-reality glacier experience at Mittelallalin, about 3,500 m up.
- Pushchair and travel-cot hire from a local rental service, for a daily fee.

Tips for skiing in Saas-Fee with kids
- It’s high and cold. The village is at about 1,800 m and the glacier goes up to 3,600 m. Midwinter can be harsh for little ones, so pack warm layers and face protection.
- Plan the walk. No cars means carrying gear from the car park. Ask whether your accommodation collects guests, or use an electric taxi or a handcart.
- Not everything is open early. Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell, including Kian’s Adventure Land, only open from 19 December.
- Take the train. Trains to Visp and the half-hourly PostBus to Saas-Fee avoid the drive and the car park entirely.
