Saas-Fee is small and car-free, so nothing is very far away. But everyone arrives at the car park or bus terminal by the village entrance, and carrying children and ski bags from there adds up. The other option is to stay in the valley villages below, using the ski bus that comes with the SaastalCard.

Wherever you stay, almost all accommodation in the valley gives you a free SaastalCard. It covers the ski bus between Saas-Fee, Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell, gives a discount on parking, and unlocks the family lift-pass deal for children up to 8.99 years. Drivers unload at Terminal A or B by the village entrance, then park; holiday-apartment guests should check whether their landlord uses an electric taxi or provides a handcart.

Best areas to stay in Saas-Fee

Saas-Fee village centre

Close to shops, restaurants and the Aqua Allalin pool and spa. Most hotels are a short walk from the lifts, but check the distance if you’re carrying skis for small children. It’s the best base for most groups: everything is on foot, and the evenings are quiet.

Near the slopes

A few properties sit right by the pistes, close to the ski-school meeting points. This is the easiest base for families and beginners, because you can clip in at the door rather than walking through the village in ski boots.

Saas-Grund

Down the valley and quieter, with its own ski area at Hohsaas and Kreuzboden, the Funslope, and an 11 km sledge run. You can drive to your door, and the ski bus links you to Saas-Fee. The catch: its lifts only open from 19 December 2026, and they close on 4 April 2027.

Saas-Almagell

A small, quiet village up the valley from Saas-Grund, with the family area at Furggstalden and Kian’s Adventure Land. Like Saas-Grund, its lifts run from 19 December to 4 April, so for pre-season or late-April trips you’ll be catching the bus up to Saas-Fee every day.

Best ski-in/ski-out hotels in Saas-Fee

  • Saaserhof Apartments: ski-in/ski-out apartments two minutes from the ski-school meeting point, with a spa and, in winter, a kids’ area with a water slide and ball pit.

True ski-in/ski-out is limited in Saas-Fee, but because the village is compact, many hotels are only a short walk from the lifts. Ask your hotel for the walking time to the nearest lift before you book.

Luxury hotels in Saas-Fee

The Walliserhof Grand-Hotel & Spa is the five-star choice: 73 rooms and suites and a 2,100 m² spa with an indoor pool. It’s in the village, so you walk to the lifts rather than ski to the door. Saas-Fee’s appeal at the top end is calm and quiet rather than glitz, so don’t expect the luxury scene of St. Moritz or Verbier.
