Courchevel is better for families than its glamorous image suggests. The beginner terrain is excellent, there are nurseries from 6 months, and Aquamotion is a reliable plan B. The main catch is cost, especially in 1850, so most families are better off in Moriond, Le Praz or La Tania.
Is Courchevel good for families?
Yes. What works:
- Gentle terrain. The Pralong, Ariondaz and Bellecôte sectors have wide green and blue runs, and Les 3 Vallées has secure Easy Rider zones for beginners.
- Childcare from 6 months in two municipal nurseries, and ski school from age 3.
- Lots to do off the slopes, from Aquamotion to toboggan runs.
- The Famille Plus label, a French scheme for family-friendly resorts.
The downsides: 1850 is very expensive, the villages are spread out, so check where your ski school meets before you book, and the lower villages can be short of snow late in the season.
Ski schools and kids’ lessons in Courchevel
- The ESF Piou-Piou Club takes children from age 3 in a snow garden, with games and first slides. It runs in Courchevel Village (meeting at the Tovets chairlift), 1850 and Moriond.
- In Courchevel Village, ESF instructors can supervise lunch at La Maison des Enfants from 12.15 to 1.45 pm.
- ESF Courchevel 1850 runs group lessons for ages 3 to 12.
- Several other schools teach children too, so check the minimum ages with the school you choose. Book early for school holidays.
Childcare and nurseries in Courchevel
Courchevel has two municipal nurseries: Les Marmots in Moriond and La Tanière des Croès in La Tania.
- They take children from 6 months up to 4 years, subject to availability. Children aged 4 to 5 can come on a half-day basis, linked to their ski lessons.
- Babies under 18 months stay for half-days only.
- For 2026/27, Les Marmots is open from 7 December 2026 to 9 April 2027, from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, every day except Saturday.
Places are limited, so book ahead. Several hotels also have their own clubs, including Écrin Blanc (ages 4 to 10), Le Chabichou and the Grand Hôtel in 1850, and Annapurna (baby club and day nursery).

Best family hotels in Courchevel

Écrin Blanc (free kids’ club for 4 to 10s and direct access to Aquamotion) and Le Montana in La Tania (ski-in/ski-out, Famille Plus) are the best-value family picks. In 1850, Le Chabichou and the Grand Hôtel have children’s and teens’ clubs. See where to stay in Courchevel for the villages and the full list.
Tips for skiing in Courchevel with kids
- Choose your village for the ski school. Piou-Piou runs in Village, 1850 and Moriond, and the nurseries are in Moriond and La Tania. Staying near both saves a lot of shuttle time.
- Watch the closing dates. Moriond and La Tania close on 11 April 2027, a week before 1850.
- Book early for February. French and UK school holidays are the busiest weeks, and lessons and nursery places fill up first. See our Courchevel ski resort guide for season dates.
