Courchevel isn’t one resort but a string of villages at different heights, all linked into the same ski area. The village you choose matters more than the hotel. It decides your budget, how lively your evenings are and, late in the season, whether you can ski back to the door. The resort has 45 hotels, from two-star to palace, and most of them have direct access to the slopes.
Best areas to stay in Courchevel
Courchevel 1850
The highest and most glamorous village, at the top of the ski area, with the palace hotels, smart restaurants and designer shops. Les Airelles describes the Jardin Alpin district as the chicest part of 1850. It’s the best base for strong skiers who want the high slopes on the doorstep, and for late-season trips. You pay heavily for it.
Courchevel Moriond (1650)
Sunny, relaxed and popular with families, with its own lifts and the start of the Moriond racing toboggan run. The four-star Le Portetta is here, and Aquamotion is close by. It’s good value by Courchevel standards, but its sector closes on 11 April 2027.

Courchevel Village (1550)
Small and quiet, mostly apartments and chalets rather than hotels. A good self-catering base, with lifts up into the ski area. The free sledge slope from 1850 ends here, and Écrin Blanc sits next to Aquamotion between Village and Moriond.
Courchevel Le Praz (1,300 m)
The lowest village, at the foot of the forest by the Lac du Praz, with a more traditional feel and the Olympic ski jumps. The Praz gondola takes you straight up into the ski area. In a poor snow year or late in the season, skiing back down to Le Praz isn’t always possible.

Courchevel La Tania
Tucked into the trees on the Méribel side, with good links in both directions. It’s quieter and usually cheaper than the other villages, and its gondola has new cabins for 2026/27. Like Moriond, its sector closes on 11 April.

Good-value places to stay in Courchevel
For Courchevel, good value means moving down the mountain. Le Montana in La Tania is a three-star on the slopes, and Les Peupliers in Le Praz is a four-star village hotel with a pool, sauna and spa. In 1850, Les Monts Charvin is a three-star boutique hotel in an old Savoyard chalet. Self-catering apartments in Courchevel Village and Moriond are usually the cheapest way to stay. Tips for booking a last-minute stay in Courchevel
- Check the hotel’s dates. Both palace hotels close on 3 April 2027, before the lifts stop on 18 April.
- Match your village to your dates. For April, stay in 1850 or Courchevel Village: the Moriond and La Tania sectors close on 11 April.
- Avoid Saturday arrivals if you can. It’s changeover day, and the road up from Moûtiers is at its busiest.
- Look lower for deals. Moriond, Village, Le Praz and La Tania usually cost less than 1850, and the lifts reach the same ski area.
