Our verdict

A five-star spa resort in the middle of Ortisei that genuinely works for families, thanks to the AKI kids' club, which even takes children to ski school. Skiers wanting the Sellaronda from the door should stay in Selva instead.

  • Families with children aged 4 and over
  • Spa lovers, with pools spread through a large park
  • Guests who want Ortisei's shops and restaurants on the doorstep
  • Skiers based on Seceda or the Alpe di Siusi

Think twice if

  • Skiers who want to start the Sellaronda from the hotel
  • Anyone travelling with a pet

ADLER Spa Resort Dolomiti is a five-star hotel in the centre of Ortisei, the largest village in Val Gardena. The tourist office traces its tradition back to 1810. It has a private park of about 8,000 m², a large spa and the AKI Kids Club. For the other hotels in the valley, see where to stay in Val Gardena.

Our take on ADLER Dolomiti

ADLER is our pick in Ortisei for a family that wants a proper spa break as well as a ski holiday. The kids’ club is unusually practical: staff take children aged 4 and over to group ski lessons and pick them up afterwards, so parents can ski or swim without the school run. And the hotel is in the centre of town, so Ortisei’s shops and restaurants are on the doorstep.

The downside is the skiing position. Ortisei is the base for Seceda and the Alpe di Siusi, not the Sellaronda, which is a lift or bus ride away from Selva. It’s also busy with families: couples after calm may prefer ADLER Spa Resort BALANCE, which is connected to it and for guests aged 14 and over.

Rooms and suites at ADLER Dolomiti

There are four main room types:

  • Nido doubles: cosy rooms without a balcony, with oak floors and wood panelling
  • Superior doubles: larger and sunnier, with or without a balcony, in classic or modern style
  • Junior Suites: with a balcony and Dolomites views
  • Family Suites for three to five, with or without a balcony and separate rooms, and one or two bathrooms

There are also single rooms. Check-in is from 3 pm and check-out by 11 am. Guest parking is free, with paid car charging in the garage. Pets are not permitted.

Skiing from ADLER Dolomiti

You buy your Dolomiti Superski pass online and collect it at reception, and there’s a ski room. Tour operator Sno puts the Seceda lift about 250 m away, reached via the ski boot room and outdoor escalators. Sno also lists a free hotel ski shuttle to Seceda, the Alpe di Siusi lift and the ski school meeting point.

From Seceda, you can ski La Longia, the 10 km run back down to Ortisei. The Alpe di Siusi has gentle slopes that suit beginners. The Ortisei ski and snowboard school is the hotel’s partner, with a representative at the resort on Sunday evenings. The Val Gardena lifts are due to run from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, subject to change.

Spa, pools and food at ADLER Dolomiti

The spa is the heart of the place, open daily from 8:30 am to 8 pm.

  • Outdoor pools spread through the park, steaming in winter
  • A warm indoor pool leading into a large whirlpool with a crystal pyramid
  • A brine pool with whirl jets
  • A warm salt lake with Dead Sea salt, light effects and ambient sound
  • A sauna world, treatments and ADLER’s own cosmetics, plus the 350 m² ADLER FIT gym

Breakfast is a buffet. Dinner is a five- to six-course set menu in the main restaurant, with a salad and starter buffet. You can also eat at the restaurant in ADLER Balance next door at no extra charge. Lunch costs extra, and there’s a cake buffet in the afternoon at the historic ADLER Bar.

ADLER Dolomiti for families

ADLER welcomes children, and families are well looked after.

  • AKI Kids Club for children aged 4 and over, open all year. In winter, supervision starts at 9 am with accompaniment to ski lessons, and the miniclub runs from 10 am to 9 pm. On Sundays it’s 6 to 9 pm.
  • Indoor play area with games, a climbing wall and a children’s cinema, plus outdoor adventures and a mini zoo.
  • Kids’ table at lunch and dinner, with drinks included.
  • Spa access with an adult in the central spa area. The new sauna area is for over-16s.

We found no published childcare for under-4s, so ask the hotel if you’re travelling with a toddler.
