The Granvara Relais & Spa Hotel is a five-star hotel on a sunny plateau above Selva, at about 1,600 m. It’s on the slopes, with a 2,000 m² spa and suites big enough for a family. For the other hotels in the valley, see where to stay in Val Gardena.
Our take on the Granvara
The Granvara gets two things right for a ski holiday: you can ski in and out, and the spa is large enough to fill the late afternoons. It suits couples and keen skiers who want to start the Sellaronda without a bus or a lift queue and come back to a warm outdoor pool.
The downsides are the location and the focus. It’s above the village rather than in it, so you’ll rely on the free shuttle for evenings in Selva. It welcomes children but is built around adults, with no kids’ club on its site and saunas closed to under-16s.
Rooms and suites at the Granvara
There are 14 room and suite categories. They range from 25 m² single rooms and 25 to 30 m² Comfort Rooms up to 120 m² Exclusive Dolomite Suites and the 120 m² Granvara Chalet Suites Dolomites, which sleep two to four. In between are Junior Suites (35 to 55 m²), Wellness Suites with private garden terraces (60 and 75 m², for two), an 85 m² Suite Deluxe, and Family Studios (45 m²) and a Family Suite (75 m²) for up to four. Most have a balcony or terrace.
Check-in is from 2 pm and check-out at 11 am. Late check-out until 6 pm is possible for a fee, subject to availability. Pets are not allowed.
Skiing from the Granvara
The hotel is directly on the Dolomiti Superski slopes, ski-in/ski-out, with direct access to the Sellaronda. The Saslong, the World Cup downhill piste, is about 150 m away. That’s a bonus in mid-December: the Saslong super-G is on 18 December and the downhill on 19 December 2026, though expect the valley to be busy that weekend.
There’s a ski service and ski rental at the hotel, and it works with the Ski and Snowboard School 2000. The Val Gardena lifts are due to open on 4 December 2026 and close on 4 April 2027, subject to change.
Spa, pools and food at the Granvara
The wellness area covers 2,000 m², with around 300 m² of water. The outdoor pool is 22 m long and heated to 32°C, and there’s an indoor pool with massage jets, bubble beds and a counter-current unit, plus indoor and outdoor whirlpools. There are several saunas, a Technogym fitness room, beauty treatments and a private spa suite. Children can use the pool area, but the saunas and the whisper lounge are for over-16s only.
The hotel offers half board. Breakfast is a buffet with a cooking station, and dinner is a five-course menu you choose yourself, with vegetarian, lactose-free and gluten-free options. The restaurant is for hotel guests only. There’s also a wine lounge. The Granvara restaurant isn’t listed with a Michelin star.
The Granvara for families
The Granvara isn’t a family hotel in the way the Biancaneve or ADLER are. There are family studios and a family suite, high chairs in the restaurant and baby beds on request, and children are welcome in the pools. But we found no kids’ club or childcare on the hotel’s site, and buggies aren’t allowed in the restaurant, lounge, pool or spa. It works best for families with older children who ski.
Where the Granvara is and getting there
The hotel is at La Selva Str. 66, on a plateau above Selva. The tourist office lists it about 1,350 m from the village centre, and a free shuttle runs between the hotel and the centre. There’s a helipad at the hotel.
By train, use Bolzano (45 km) or Bressanone (35 km), then the bus, which runs almost hourly up Val Gardena. The hotel can arrange transfers from stations and airports. Bolzano airport is about 45 km away, Innsbruck 120 km (about 1 hour 15 minutes) and Verona 190 km (about 2 hours). By car, it’s about 30 minutes from the Chiusa/Val Gardena exit of the A22. Winter tyres or chains are required in winter.
When the Granvara is open
The hotel says it is open again from 3 December 2026. It doesn’t give a closing date for the winter, so check with the hotel if you’re planning a late-season trip.
