The Alpenroyal Grand Hotel is a five-star hotel in Selva, run as a family home since 1956 and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. It has 54 rooms and suites, around 5,000 m² of spa for hotel guests, six places to eat and drink and its own kids’ club. For other options in the valley, see where to stay in Val Gardena.
Our take on the Alpenroyal
If you want one hotel that does everything well, this is it. The spa is one of the largest in the valley, the food goes up to Michelin-star level, and there’s a kids’ club so parents get time to themselves.
Where it falls short is ski access. It’s on Meisules street, on the main road through Selva, west of the centre, not on a piste. You can ski back at the end of the day, and the free shuttle takes you to the lifts, but if walking out of the boot room onto the snow matters most, look at the Granvara or the Biancaneve.
Rooms and suites at the Alpenroyal
The 54 rooms and suites run from single rooms and double rooms through Junior Suites and Junior Suites De Luxe to the Alpenroyal Suite and the VIP Suite. There are connecting rooms for families. Check-in is guaranteed from 4 pm, and check-out is by 11 am, with late check-out until 6 pm for a fee if available. Parking in the garage is free, and there are 12 electric car chargers. Small dogs are welcome on request, for a charge.
Skiing from the Alpenroyal
The hotel is at about 1,500 m, with the Dolomiti Superski area and the Sellaronda on the doorstep. Two things make the skiing easy:
- A ski trail home. From Dantercepies, you can ski back by taking the Nives lift and then skiing through Selva to the hotel.
- A free shuttle. It runs within Selva and to the lifts on request, from 8:30 am to 7 pm.
There’s a ski rental and shop in the hotel, run with Ski School Selva, open daily from 8 to 11 am and 3 to 7 pm. An overnight ski service collects your skis in the late afternoon and has them prepared in your ski depot by morning. The Val Gardena lifts are due to run from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, subject to change.
Spa, pools and food at the Alpenroyal
The spa covers about 5,000 m² for hotel guests, indoors and out. There are four pools:
- An outdoor pool at 33°C, open all winter, with underwater music and a flowing-water channel
- An indoor pool at 30°C
- An indoor hot whirlpool at 36°C
- A panoramic outdoor whirlpool at 36°C in the sauna area, which is textile-free
There’s also a sauna world, relaxation areas, a fitness area, beauty treatments and massages.
Food is the other big draw. Alpenroyal Gourmet, led by chef Mario Porcelli, holds one Michelin star, and it won the guide’s Passion Dessert award in the 2026 Italy edition. Day to day, guests eat at Le Stuben, the hotel restaurant. There’s also the AlpenBISTRO, a Fondue Stube, a piano bar and lounge, and a wine cellar.
The Alpenroyal for families
The Alpenroyal welcomes children, and it’s more family-friendly than most five-star hotels. The Miniclub Alpenprince is open all day, with a climbing wall, a soft-play area, table football, mini hockey, table tennis, games and a PlayStation. The hotel doesn’t give age ranges or exact hours, so check before you book if you have toddlers. Children can share their parents’ room on an extra bed at a reduced rate, and there are connecting rooms. For ski lessons, the hotel works with Ski School Selva.
Where the Alpenroyal is and getting there
The address is Meisules street 43, Selva di Val Gardena. The village centre is nearby, and the free shuttle saves the walk.
The nearest stations are Bolzano (40 km) and Bressanone (41 km), with bus line 350 running up the valley from Bolzano and Ponte Gardena. The nearest airports are Bolzano (50 km), Innsbruck (120 km) and Verona (190 km), with Munich about 306 km away. By car, leave the A22 Brenner motorway at Chiusa/Klausen and follow the road up the valley.
When the Alpenroyal is open
In October 2026, the hotel’s website says it is on its seasonal break and reopens for winter from 4 December, the day the lifts are due to open. It doesn’t publish a closing date, so check with the hotel for late-season stays.
