Our verdict

The best-placed hotel in Val Gardena for beginners and young skiers: you're on the Monte Pana practice slopes, the ski school office is inside, and the Sellaronda is a chairlift away. The price is a quiet, isolated evening up on the plateau.

Who it suits

  • Families with children learning to ski
  • Beginners who want gentle slopes outside the door
  • Cross-country skiers, with trails starting at the hotel
  • Anyone who wants Sassolungo views and calm evenings

Think twice if

  • Anyone who wants restaurants and bars within walking distance
  • Travellers without a car who don't want to rely on the chairlift or a taxi

Hotel Monte Pana (also listed as the Monte Pana Dolomites Hotel) is a four-star hotel on the Monte Pana plateau above Santa Cristina, at the foot of the Sassolungo. It sits right on the plateau’s slopes, and it’s ski-in/ski-out. For the rest of the valley, see where to stay in Val Gardena.

Our take on Hotel Monte Pana

For a family learning to ski, this is hard to beat. Monte Pana is one of Val Gardena’s two main beginner areas, away from the busy Sellaronda traffic, and the hotel is on it. The ski school office is inside the hotel, the rental is on site, and children can be on the snow minutes after breakfast. Stronger skiers aren’t stuck either: the Mont de Sëura chairlift links the plateau to the Sellaronda.

The catch is that you’re up on the plateau, not in the village. In the evening it’s quiet, and getting down to Santa Cristina means the road or the chairlift. Some guests will love that. Others will want to be in Selva or Ortisei.

Rooms and suites at Hotel Monte Pana

The tourist office lists five room types: Standard doubles with a view of the Odle, Superior doubles with a Sassolungo view (up to four with extra beds), Junior Suites (two people, up to four with a second bed), Suites for four (five with an extra child’s bed) and single rooms of about 18 m². The hotel describes its rooms as cosy and panoramic.

Check-in is from 2 pm and check-out by 10 am. Outdoor parking is included. Pets are allowed for a supplement, but not in the restaurant, wellness area, pool, gym, spa or garden.

Skiing from Hotel Monte Pana

The hotel is directly on the slopes and the cross-country trails of the Monte Pana plateau, which sits between about 1,600 and 1,800 m.

  • Mont de Sëura chairlift: this is your route to the Sellaronda and the wider Dolomiti Superski area. Three runs come back down from Mont de Sëura to Monte Pana: the black Alpha and the reds Bravo (known as La Romantica, 2.2 km with a 400 m drop) and Charly. The red Tramans links Piz Sella to the Charly run.
  • Ski school in the hotel: the Santa Cristina Ski School has an office here for private and group lessons.
  • Rental on site: ski and snowboard hire, plus a ski boot dryer.
  • Cross-country: panoramic trails from beginner to advanced start at the hotel.

You can buy your Dolomiti Superski pass at check-in. The Val Gardena lifts are due to open on 4 December 2026 and close on 4 April 2027, subject to change.

Spa, pools and food at Hotel Monte Pana

There’s a heated indoor panoramic pool with large windows facing the Sassolungo, an indoor children’s pool and an outdoor whirlpool. The wellness area has several saunas, a steam bath, massages and treatments, and a gym. The outdoor hot tubs, saunas and Turkish bath are for guests aged 16 and over.

The hotel has a restaurant, an à la carte restaurant, a wine cellar, a bar with a terrace and a breakfast buffet. Vegetarian and special-diet menus are available.

Hotel Monte Pana for families

This is a strong choice for families with young children.

  • Mini Club for children aged 4 and up, with a dedicated assistant during opening hours. Ask the hotel for hours.
  • Indoor children’s pool with no age restrictions, plus children’s spa treatments such as gentle massages.
  • Playroom, playground and childcare, according to the tourist office, and the Pana Kids playground on the plateau.
  • Beginner slopes and ski school on the doorstep.
  • Cots and high chairs on request.

For under-4s, there’s no published childcare age, so check with the hotel before you book.

Where Hotel Monte Pana is and getting there

The address is Pana Str. 45, Santa Cristina. The tourist office puts it about 830 m from the village centre in a straight line, but it’s up on the plateau. By road, it’s about 2 km from the Santa Cristina town hall bus stop, and a two-seater chairlift links the village centre with Monte Pana. The hotel says buses and trains don’t reach the hotel, so if you’re not driving, plan on the chairlift or a taxi, and check the chairlift’s hours.

For the valley, trains on the Brenner line stop at Bolzano and Ponte Gardena, and bus line 350 runs up to Santa Cristina. Bolzano airport is about 40 km from the valley. By car, leave the A22 at Chiusa/Klausen. Check road conditions before driving up to Monte Pana in winter.

When Hotel Monte Pana is open

The hotel doesn’t publish 2026/27 opening dates online. With the lifts opening on 4 December 2026, contact the hotel if you’re planning an early-December trip.
